9 Transformational Creativity

Transformational creativity changes the rules that generate a conceptual space. It is not necessarily harder than every exploratory achievement: a proof or search inside a fixed language may be extraordinarily difficult. Transformation instead carries the broadest representational burden because the proposal may alter not only which answers are available but also the language in which questions, evidence, and evaluation are expressed. The central artifact is therefore not a surprising output. It is a versioned theory-package revision together with a transport and admission record.

Relative to a frozen representational package and a versioned trace segment, the distinction from the preceding two chapters is exact. Combinational creativity adds a composite through an admissible interface; exploratory creativity adds a path or consequence while the representational package remains fixed. Transformational creativity changes that package. The burden of proof consequently rises: the system must say what changed, why ordinary search or repair was insufficient, and which earlier results survive.

. Transformation is not unconstrained mutation. It is an explicit intervention on a maintained theory, motivated by an obstruction, compared with less disruptive alternatives, and tested on evidence not used to invent it.
