12.6 What has been learned—and what has not

These studies support three mechanism claims within the registered synthetic worlds. First, a mixed witness can contain decision-relevant information absent from marginal skill diagnostics. Second, independent admission gates can prevent an optimizer from promoting a malformed or unsupported skill edit. Third, factorizing a compound skill into typed subskills can convert an opaque optimization failure into a learnable and auditable composition.

They do not establish the central creative claim of OPTIC. Every retained experimental artifact used a registered hypothesis and skill vocabulary. The model learned a routing rule and composed supplied subskills; it did not construct a new interface or workflow grammar absent from the reference space. These are evidence for auditable skill factorization and routing, but remain preparatory to the stronger claim of infinitesimal creativity.

. OPTIC begins where fixed-vocabulary skill optimization ends. A system has not demonstrated transformational skill creativity merely because it edits a Markdown file or reaches a higher score. It must construct a previously unavailable typed operation or composition rule, transport prior behavior, and pass independent execution tests.
