16.6 Three Prometheus executable substrates

Prometheus contains three instructive scientific packages. They are not interchangeable simulators. One is a dataset-backed neural projection counterfactual, one executes a hydrology model with a documented domain mismatch, and one propagates an optical-property replacement through published radiative-forcing maps. A common architecture must preserve these differences rather than erase them behind the generic word simulation [ Mahadevan , 2026f ] .

The three cases should share an AGENTIC protocol rather than a single ontology. Each package is wrapped in a manifest declaring accessible variables, interventions, costs, stochasticity, and hidden evaluator variables. Discovery and confirmation seeds are disjoint. A skill or workflow learned in one package may transfer only at the level licensed by its types; a common word such as “exposure” does not establish a common mechanism.

Domain

Executable substrate

Intervention

Sharp boundary

Singing mice

MAPseq matrices for 12 animals and 16 targets

replace singing-mouse AUD/PAG support by laboratory-mouse means

projection evidence is not a vocal-behavior simulator

Indus Valley

paper figure data plus a VIC hydrology harness

restore a 13% precipitation deficit and \(0.5^\circ \)C warming

sample basin, not the paper’s exact transient Indus forcing

Airborne plastics

source tables and forcing maps

replace colored-particle optics by white/pristine optics

does not rerun atmospheric transport or radiative transfer
