20.9 Conclusion

The framework developed in this book starts from a modest but consequential claim: a learning system can maintain explicit compositional commitments, and their failures can carry more structure than a scalar loss. Tangent and Weil probes make local variation inspectable. Double involution organizes the interaction between improving a theory’s models and probing changes to the maintained package. Lie brackets and quotient residuals localize missing directions. A package comparison records the finite proposal; sketch extension records its presentation-changing case. Transport and admission ask whether the change deserves to persist.

This does not solve creativity. It supplies a grammar for asking better questions about a subset of creative acts and an engineering discipline for building systems whose revisions can be inspected. The resulting picture is less romantic than an inexplicable leap and more ambitious than sampling a surprising artifact. It treats creativity as the construction of new, reusable compositional structure under evidence.

. A creative machine should not merely generate alternatives. It should record which theory generated them, where that theory failed, what extension was proposed, what prior knowledge survived, what evidence admitted the change, and whether others can reuse it.

The question left open is whether this discipline can scale from controlled repairs and withheld generators to discoveries that found new scientific, mathematical, or artistic practices. DIAL is not offered as the last word on that question. It is a categorical starting point from which the question can be stated compositionally, tested experimentally, and revised when the theory itself fails.
