14.2.1 Running example: a collider repair ladder

Suppose a newly opened collider channel disagrees with the response functor of the current hypothesis. The residual alone does not license rewriting the theory. The registered blocks of \(\mathfrak C_{\mathrm{coll}}\) induce a repair ladder:

  1. repair detector calibration, event reconstruction, or the empirical presentation;

  2. repair background and nuisance models while retaining the generating theory;

  3. update parameters inside the present theory;

  4. revise a generator, relation, or interaction term; and only then

  5. revise the ambient symmetry or preservation doctrine.

Each move changes a larger support. A valid accommodation certificate records why every lower-support repair space was empty or observationally inadequate, and which established response predictions remain settled. This is the scientific analogue of preventing a lifelong learner from overwriting its entire compositional storehouse after one anomalous observation.
