19 Infinitesimal Argument Repair

SCoLT

The Sheaf Chain of Toulmin Thought, or SCoTT, represents an argument as local Toulmin tickets and asks whether their typed roles glue. Chapter 10 introduced CoLT as a general architecture for reasoning by structural repair. Its Toulmin specialization is SCoLT, the Sheaf-theoretic Chain of lincs Thought. SCoLT keeps the SCoTT base construction fixed and asks a further question:

If an admissible argument is perturbed, transported, composed, or repaired, does it remain warranted, and can a failure be localized and corrected without changing its declared meaning?

The distinction produces a simple hierarchy. Chain of Thought generates a reasoning sequence. Chain of Toulmin Thought assigns argument roles. SCoTT tests whether local Toulmin structure glues. CoLT supplies the general diagnose–repair–admit architecture, and SCoLT differentiates, localizes, and safely repairs a failure in the Toulmin argument sheaf.

11. SCoTT supplies the base argument sheaf. SCoLT is its governed CoLT evolution under perturbation, localization, repair, and admission.

Boundary

SCoTT provides the static sheaf-theoretic criterion: local Toulmin tickets must agree on overlaps and admit a global realization. SCoLT adds a dynamical criterion: that agreement must remain stable under declared perturbations, and any repair must preserve the argument’s licensed meaning. The deterministic E\(_0\) study isolates this architectural claim; it does not assess unrestricted natural-language reasoning.
