11.7 Repair and admission

BRIDGE repairs the search problem, not necessarily the data-generating system. Its principal repair is a smaller candidate family:

Other repairs include recalibrating a field, widening the mask, adding an adjustment coordinate, changing the regime interpretation, or switching the downstream estimand from a DAG to a PAG.

Admission is lexicographic:

  1. reject fields that fail overlap or held-out calibration;

  2. require target-arrow retention on controlled cases;

  3. compare geometry to simpler distribution-shift diagnostics;

  4. run a regime-appropriate downstream learner;

  5. report screen and final-graph metrics separately; and

  6. abstain from causal specificity not supported by the design.
