The continuing LINCS question

The applications in this book show that a common categorical grammar can organize causal discovery, representation learning, adapter composition, skills, reinforcement learning, preferences, relational geometry, predictive descent, and argument repair. The objective is not to force those domains into one universal loss, but to make the translations among their declarations explicit enough to prove what transfers and observe what does not.

The durable LINCS question is therefore:

Which structural promise failed, how does that failure move, what part of the modeled learning system may be changed while the rest is held invariant, and what independent evidence licenses the repair?

Higher tangents, homotopy, coalgebra, topology, statistical inference, and mechanization each refine a different part of that question. Their value will come from preserving the distinction that motivated LINCS in the first place: an obstruction is a typed failure of composition; a learning signal is an observation of that failure; and a repaired system is one that passes a separate admission decision. The resulting framework is interventionist in method, categorical in its account of structure, and causal only where its semantics and experiments justify that stronger word.

A repair calculus also reveals its own boundary. LINCS assumes a registered declaration and a registered language of admissible changes. When persistent obstruction cannot be resolved within that language, the problem is no longer only to repair a model of the theory: it is to propose a finite extension of the theory, transport prior knowledge across the extension, and admit the result under independent evidence. The companion volume Infinitesimal Creativity begins at this boundary. It treats typed theory extension as a distinct research problem rather than silently promoting an unsuccessful LINCS repair into a creative act.
