10.8 A compact SCoLT trace

Suppose a local ticket contains the claim “treatment \(X\) reduces outcome \(Y\),” grounds from one study, a warrant that transports the study estimate to a target population, and a qualifier restricting the claim to that population.

1. Declare. The argument sketch requires source naturality, warrant transport, qualifier preservation, and descent.

2. Probe. Replace the target population while holding the surface claim fixed.

3. Diagnose. The base ticket still parses, but the tangent route through the warrant disagrees with direct transport of the claim.

4. Quotient and localize. Paraphrase variation is null; the surviving obstruction localizes to the population bridge and qualifier.

5. Repair. Propose weakening the claim, adding transport evidence, or abstaining from population-level promotion.

6. Admit. Independent evidence determines whether the new warrant is licensed. If not, the maintained trace records abstention rather than silently generalizing the study.

This trace is useful even if every candidate sentence was generated by a different model. Its coherence comes from typed artifacts and admission contracts, not from continuity of an invisible monologue.
